(This is the first part of my vacation to Prince Edward Island.)
Back in January, I was in school just starting my second semester. I had the itch to travel because I couldn't at that moment and I wanted to plan a trip for the summer. I have always wanted to go to PEI since I was a little girl. Listening to Anne of Green Gables and watching the movies helped fuel that desire. So I started to look up plane tickets, calculate costs and research places to stay.
I sent a text to my mom about it and instantly she was on board with the thought. We tossed around ideas and with the go-ahead from dad, she made a few reservations and I booked my plane ticket.
Fast forward five and a half months and I was boarding a plane to NYC - excited to see my family and the island.
^^On the drive back from the airport. Foggy.^^
^^The sun started coming out the closer we got to camp^^
^^view from the kitchen^^
^^walking on the camp paths^^
^^the beautiful lake^^
When I got to camp, I realized how peaceful it was. People were not consumed with being busy. (Maybe they were busy, but if so I didn't notice)
It's simple living and easy going.
^^July 5th - watching the games and ready to race^^
Saturday morning - the 5th - we headed up to the field for a morning of games. For Independence day celebrations, camp holds traditional American relay games in the main field. Three-legged races, an egg toss, potato sack races, etc. each divided up into age groups.
At the end, there is one big relay with all the kids (and adults if they want to) split up into two teams. Starting with the youngest, one-by-one they run around the marked circle with a baton and then the runner will pass it to the next person and so on until the last person of the team finishes.
^^the teams getting ready for the relay^^
^^ This year a bear keeps coming around. We heard someone banging pots and pans and blowing an air horn so we ran with our cameras to try and see it. ^^
^^The "tent"/our home^^
We spent our last evening eating a pizza dinner on the beach before heading north the next day!
